About the National Care Service
We exist to make the UK's care and support system easier to understand — for everyone who needs it.
Our mission
The National Care Service is an independent information resource dedicated to helping people across the UK navigate care, benefits, and support. We believe that access to clear, honest information is a right — not a privilege.
The care and support system is complex. It spans NHS services, local authority social care, welfare benefits, housing adaptations, and a wide network of charities and voluntary organisations. For many people, finding the right help at the right time feels overwhelming.
We cut through that complexity. Our resources are written in plain English, kept up to date, and always link directly to official sources. We don't offer advice — we help people find the people and organisations who can.
What we stand for
Clarity over jargon
We write for real people, not professionals. If something can be said simply, we say it simply.
Independence
We are not affiliated with any government department, political party, or commercial organisation. Our only interest is yours.
Accuracy
Every resource we link to is official or from a trusted charity. We review our content regularly and remove anything outdated.
Community
The people who use care and support services know them best. We amplify real voices and lived experience alongside official guidance.
Dignity
We treat everyone who comes to this site with respect. Care is not charity — it is a right, and we write with that belief at the centre of everything.
Accessibility
We design for everyone — including people with disabilities, older people, and those using assistive technology.
Who this site is for
The National Care Service is for anyone in the UK who needs to understand or access care and support — including:
- People living with a disability, long-term health condition, or mental illness
- Unpaid carers — including family members, friends, and young carers
- Older people and their families planning for future care needs
- People navigating the benefits system for the first time
- Anyone who has been refused support and wants to understand their options
- Professionals and volunteers who support people in the care system
Important: we are not an advice service
The National Care Service provides information only. We are not a legal advice service, a benefits adviser, or a care provider. If you need personalised advice, please contact Citizens Advice, your local council, or a specialist charity such as Carers UK or Age UK.
